Who will it affect?
From October 2018 those tenants who are registered with Springburn JC+ or Partick JC+ will be in the Full service area.
From December 2018, those tenants who are registered with Shettleston JC+ or Castlemilk JC+ will be in the Full service area.
The Full service area:
- You will be expected to make your claim and notify of any changes in your circumstances online.
- Any household composition will be affected.
Universal Credit replaces the following benefits:
- Child tax credit
- Housing benefit
- Working tax credit
- Income support
- Income-related employment and support allowance
- Income-based jobseekers allowance.
- The Housing part of Universal Credit will be paid directly to you and will be called Housing Element. Previously known as Housing Benefit.
- If you have 3 or more children you will not be able to claim Universal Credit until a later date.
- You will be responsible for ensuring your rent is paid to your landlord (Thenue) and you do not go into arrears. We would suggest that you set up a direct debit to pay your rent.
How will it be paid?
- Universal Credit will be paid monthly.
- From February 2018, the 6 week waiting period will be reduced to 5 weeks for all cases.
- From January 2018, there will be no new Universal Credit claims until we are in the full service area.
- From April 2018, If you were in receipt of housing benefit before going onto Universal Credit, then your Housing Benefit will continue for two weeks.
- You will ne able to opt for twice monthly payments of Universal Credit and the Housing Element being paid directly to Thenue. You will only be able to do this after your first payment is received.
- You will also be able to request a full months advance payment and you will pay this back over a 12 month period.

Please note Universal Credit is expected to be paid into a Bank Account, however you can also have it paid into a Credit Union Account. If you do not have a Bank Account, then you should ask for more information about this. There are a large range of bank accounts available and some may not be suitable for you.
